Metacognitive therapy (MCT) vs. Exposure and response prevention (ERP)

Cognitive behaviour therapy, especially exposure and response prevention (ERP) is the treatment of choice for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, a substantial number of patients refuse this method or fail to benefit enough. Metacognitive therapy (MCT) claims to successfully treat OCD without prolonged exposures.

In a DFG-funded bicentric study, we investigated the efficacy of MCT vs. ERP in the treatment of patients with OCD. The study was conducted by the universities of Marburg (Prof. Dr. Julia Glombiewski) and Leipzig (Prof. Dr. Cornelia Exner).
